About
The Name.
The blogger calls himself ‘The Piker’. Needless to say, it is not his real name. But just like many bloggers and great writers, he prefers to hide behind a pseudonym. The name is an inspiration (or blatant copy, if you may) from the character played by Brad Pitt in the Guy Ritchie movie, Snatch. If you haven’t seen the movie, he advises you to go see it.
That gets the name part out of the way.
The Blogger.
The Piker was born in the hot and humid climes of Chennai and raised in hotter and humid-er environs of Bahrain with some relentless desert sun for company; which explains the progressive tanning of his skin with time. (It was rumoured that there was a time when The Piker was as pink as a pig - the Porky Pig kind, not the desi ones - and his skin was as radiant as the sun. Now his complexion merely reflects the desert sand.) He maintains that this was one of the regrets of his loving mother and not his obsession with his skin color. The pursuit of higher education brought him to India and more specifically IIT - Roorkee, where he somehow managed a degree in Computer Science. The lazy person that he is, he decided that staying on in academics is the lesser evil when weighed against working for a corporate monster. So he decided to move to the US to pursue a Masters’ degree. Seems like a rather simplistic and absurd reason to give, but subsequent interactions with other graduate students here in College Station makes his reason sound more logical and well thought out. Anyway, he does realize that the joys of student life will be short-lived, and it will not be long before he finds himself compelled to get his butt out of the study desk and plonk it down on to the office desk in a cubicle. He also feels sorry for his once beautiful hair that have now decided to leave his scalp for a casual stroll, never to return. *Deep sigh* He loves watching cricket (follows the Indian cricket team’s fortunes) and football (soccer) and is such a big fan of Manchester United that, given the time, he would start a Man United blog. He loves watching movies and his music tastes range from rock to A. R. Rahman.

The Piker loves writing and actually jumped onto the blogging bandwagon three years ago because he actually thought he would write a life changing post that would make him famous and lead him to write a Booker prize winning book. Gentle readers, as you may have seen, none of that has actually happened. He still dreams about such greatness and some ill-advised posts in the past have made him believe in the adage that ‘One must never count their moong-dals before they sprout’. (In case you are still wondering, this quote was also previously used in his Happy Bloggiversary post.) His posts can range from absurd short stories on an imaginary character that goes by the name Riggit, to entertainment, to randomly cooked-up articles masquerading as humor. He tries to write posts with mostly politically correct language with occasional deviation. Although he is still not sure whether to use British or American spellings for his words.
His new domain.
Having moved from one blogging platform to another far too many times for anyone’s liking, he sincerely hopes the spoilings of a personal domain (be it for freedom of customization or for the obvious purposes of blog-whoring) would keep him happily settled and assures his loyal readers that they would not have to change their RSS feeds after this one last time. He thanks his loyal readers for their umm… loyalty and apologizes for making them change feed URLs time and again.
